Motherhood: An Eternal Partnership with God

We wish all the sweet Sisters in our ward a very Happy Mothers Day! We hope you enjoy your special day and that you know you are appreciated in every way! (*** Just a note: if the music for the blog is over riding this video just scroll down and push pause on the music section so that you can hear only the video.)
During the month of June, The Relief Society will help you acquire and assemble the basics of a 72-Hour kit.  Please be putting aside some money so you can take advantage of this opportunity.

When a disaster strikes, your community emergency services and government agencies will not be able to respond to your needs immediately.  In the event of an earthquake local emergency rescuers may need help themselves.   Their buildings, equipment, personnel, communications, and mobility may be severely hampered by the event. They will be overwhelmed. You will be relying on what you have prepared for your family.

OUR WARD LEADERSHIP wants you to be prepared to be on your own for a minimum of three days after a disaster.  One of the most important elements of this preparedness is the 72-hour kit for your home or office.  The contents of this kit will vary, but in every case it should contain the things you need to survive for three days on your own.  A list of items to include in your 72-hour kits will be provided at a later time.

We are looking forward to helping your family be prepared.

Help Needed!

SISTERS! HELP!
Some of you may know that our stake is apart of a production called a youth spectacular. This is usually done when a new temple is built or reopened after renovations.  We have special permission to have one here in St. George. Our stake and 5 others are participating in this spectacular.

My name is Tracy Thompson (from 5th ward) and I am over the costumes for our stake. We have almost 500 youth so you can see that I cannot do this alone. Our youth are blessed in that our stake is representing the Polynesian Culture. Because of this we have 8 different costumes to make. They are simple and just go over a basic T and skirt or pants. The budget for each child is $3.50. So the fabric must be cut to specific measurements in order to get the most out of it. They also must all look alike so I can’t just send it home with people to be made and brought back. So we will be meeting at the church to cut and sew MARCH 8TH AT THE STAKE CENTER. This first day will just be cutting. Please come even if you don’t sew. All who own a cutting board and roller please bring them.

I also have things that I need donated or borrowed:

 * wire hangers ( I need about 500 so if you own even 1 I’ll take it)
                * will need to borrow 13 clothes racks
                *black thread
*the youth will need 1 person per 10 youth to help with changes for dress rehearsals and the day of the production. If you are able to do this please get with your Young Men or Young Women’s Presidencies to see if they have enough for your ward. Males to help with Young Men and females to help with Young Women of course.

PLEASE COME!   MARCH 8TH  from 1 to 3!   STAKE CENTER!

BRING CUTTING BOARD AND CUTTING ROLLER IF YOU HAVE ONE IF NOT SCISSORS ARE FABULOUS! I AM NOT ABOVE BEGGING:,[

November 5th Super Saturday!

Hi Sisters!  Here are the projects we are offering for the Super Saturday that is on November 5th from 10-2.  You can order by placing a comment on this blog or by e-mailing Becky Thomas at ryanbeckythomas@yahoo.com.  These are the items that have been displayed in hall by the chapel the last few weeks.  If you already signed up thank you and you don't need to reply.  We are sorry that this is only posted a few days before the deadline to order, but we need all orders placed by Wed. Oct. 26th.  So please respond quickly.  Please bring money to church on Sunday Oct. 30th if possible.  Checks can be made out to Southgate 2nd Ward and write Super Saturday in the Memo.  You can pay for them on Saturday if you have to, but we would like to have the money taken care of.  I will e-mail you your total after Wed.  A children's class will be provided.

**The holidays are coming up!  It's a perfect time to get some of those presents checked off your list.**

St. George - With Words

Salt Lake City - No Words

Small Temple Pictures - $5.00

These pictures are on a piece of wood with a dal in the back or you can add a picture hanger on your own.  These are perfect for in entertainment centers, on end tables, or night stands.  They are a 6x7 picture with a 6 3/4 x 7 3/4 piece of wood.  They can be any temple you would like.  They all come with the words on the picture. You will paint the piece of wood and stick the picture on it.  Please include quantity and the name of the temple when you order.

Family Home Evening and Menu Organizers - $11.00 each
This is a 12x12 frame with a piece of scrapbook paper (these are not the papers that you will get) in it.  The vinyl is placed on top of the glass and then it because a dry erase board.  It also includes a dry erase marker.  The fun thing about these are that you can change the paper to match any room or change it out for the holidays.  With the family home evening one you can put the names of each person on it, then as they decided which scripture or treat you can write it by their name so everything is ready to go that night.  With the Menu you can write what you will be making that night along with the recipe book and page number, then if you are running late your husband can start it before you get home :).  You will choose a paper and stick the vinyl on the glass.  If you would like to find your own frame and only buy the vinyl it is $3.50.  Please include quantity and which one you want to order.

Gift Containers - $4.00 Each
These cute cookie, chocolate covered pretzel, candy bar, etc. containers are the perfect way to wrap a Birthday, Christmas, or Thank You gift.  I hear pringles cans are the perfect way to send cookies to missionaries so they make it in one piece.  They are made out of a pringles can and we will have all of the paper cut to the correct size.  All you have to do is stick it all on. Please include quantity and which can you would like to make. (Pink is Birthday, Red is Christmas, Blue is Thank You)

Recipes

Here are the recipes for the whole grain bread, wheat pancakes and homemade butter from April's Relief Society Meeting.  Enjoy!

Wheat Pancakes
1 Cup Milk
1 Cup Wheat
2 Tablespoons Honey
1/2 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Baking Powder
2 Eggs

Blend the Milk and Wheat in the blender until it reaches a fine consistency breaking down the wheat.  Then add the rest of the ingredients to the blender and blend until all ingredients are incorporated.  There will be a grainy texture to the mixture because of the wheat.

Homemade Butter
In a glass jar add heavy cream, a good amount of salt and a marble.  Fasten with a tight lid and shake your heart out!  This is fun to involve kids in.  You will know when to stop shaking when the cream solidifies together in the jar.  There will be remaining liquid surrounding the butter that you can drain and is buttermilk that you can use for something else.

April Relief Society Activity

We had a wonderful night learning to make bread, wheat pancakes and homemade butter!

Sue Arbon taught us how to knead the dough and how to make homemade butter and Kristi Humphries taught us how to make the bread and wheat pancakes.  Delicious!

We were getting familiar with a wheat hand grinder which turns out to be a lot of work.  Electric grinders are definitely the preferred method by all who tried the manual hand grinder!

And of course the best part of the night was sampling the delicious bread with homemade butter and wheat pancakes!  Thanks to those who came and prepared a wonderful evening for us!  Recipes to follow.
